Bursary, Fees, Grants and Loans
Apart from bursaries the information below is for those applying for the course in 2009/10. The funding for 2010/11 will not be significantly different.
Tuition fees now apply for those on courses leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
The fees need not be paid ‘upfront’ but can be paid by taking out a loan from the Student Loan Company and then repaid when you are earning over £15,000 (as with the current student loan system).
The arrangements for trainees at Durham Secondary Applied SCITT for 2009/10:
- All trainees will pay a tuition fee of £3,225. If eligble (see below), you can apply for a loan to cover the full amount, this only needs to be repaid once you are earning over £15,000.
- If eligible for student finance you will receive a £1,106 Maintenance Grant
- If you are eligible for the full £2,906 Maintenance Grant, you will also get a mandatory bursary of £319.
| Household Income | How much? |
| £25,000 or less | Full £2,906 grant |
| Between £25,001 and £50,020 | Partial grant |
| More than £50,020 | No grant |
The amount of Maintenance Grant you receive will affect the amount of Maintenance Loan you can borrow. The amount of Maintenance Loan you can receive will reduce by £0.50 for every £1 of Maintenance Grant you are entitled to.
- If you are eligible for student finance you can also apply for a Maintenance loan. The amount you can get depends on your household income. The maximum amounts for 2009/10 are:
Living at your parents' home |
up to £3,838 |
Living in your own home and studying outside of London |
up to £4,950 |
Health and Social Care, Art and Design (Creative and Media) and Leisure and Tourism trainees all receive a £4,000 training bursary.
Applied Science trainees will receive a £6000 training bursary
Mathematics and Applied ICT trainees will receive a £9000 training bursary.
